Twenty-two photos from Leeds' St Patrick's Day celebrations

Thousands of revellers descended on Leeds this morning for the annual St Patrick’s Day celebrations.

Despite the parade being cancelled due to new safety regulations, it meant the fun and festivities were concentrated around Millennium Square.

And it became a sea of green, and stout of course, as the Emerald Isle entertainment got underway.

There were plenty of musicians and dancers taking to the stage, and despite the parade being cancelled, there was a mini procession around the square.

Leeds' St Patrick's Day parade has become a central part of the city's annual celebrations, with previous events featuring dozens of floats along with walkers, dancers and musicians through the city centre.

Organisers hope the parade will return next year. They were left with little choice but to scrap this years after new safety rules were introduced just last month, giving participants little time to prepare.

The training relates to updated guidance due to become law next year under Martyn's Law, introduced in response to the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing.
