Holafly’s Always On feature gives travellers 1GB of backup mobile data every month, offering a lifeline when flights are cancelled, plans expire or stopovers change.
A cancelled flight, an unexpected stopover or an expired mobile plan can leave travellers unable to access directions or contact a transfer company.
That is where Holafly’s new Always On feature could prove useful. Once one of the company’s travel eSIMs has been installed, it provides 1GB of backup data every month across more than 150 supported destinations.
The allowance refreshes every 30 days without the traveller having to reinstall the eSIM or purchase another package. It does not roll over, but could provide enough data to access maps, send WhatsApp messages, check emails, order a taxi or arrange a replacement plan.
Holafly says Always On is included with its travel eSIMs, covering both short-trip unlimited-data products and longer-term monthly plans.

An eSIM is a digital alternative to the physical SIM card inside a phone. Travellers with a compatible device can install one before leaving home, then activate it after reaching their destination.
Holafly offers plans for more than 200 destinations, ranging from individual countries to wider regions and multi-country trips. There are 11 regional options, including Europe, plus a broader Global eSIM.
Many destination plans include unlimited data, aimed at people who regularly use navigation, upload photographs, make internet calls or follow events at home. The price is displayed before purchase, avoiding a later roaming bill from Holafly.
However, network availability, speeds and fair-usage policies can differ locally, so customers should check the details of their chosen destination plan.
How to install an eSIM
Installation is available through a QR code or manual setup. Compatible iPhones using iOS 17.4 or later may offer a one-tap option. The eSIM is delivered by email or WhatsApp. That removes the need to visit a mobile shop or swap a small plastic card at the airport.
Keep your usual number
Travellers can also keep their regular SIM and usual phone number. This allows the same WhatsApp account to continue working while Holafly supplies the mobile data.
Practical tip: switch off roaming
Data roaming should be switched off for the normal UK SIM. This prevents it connecting abroad and potentially triggering charges from the customer’s usual network.
Support around the clock
Holafly’s refreshed app allows users to check compatibility, install and manage eSIMs and monitor plans. Human support is available around the clock through WhatsApp and website chat.
The technology will not suit everyone. Older handsets may not support eSIMs, while light data users could find their existing network’s roaming allowance sufficient. But for travellers who depend on their phones, that emergency 1GB could offer crucial breathing room when a journey goes wrong.
