When we think of healthy eating, we often think of batch cooking, meal prep containers and spending half a Sunday in the kitchen, but one subscription service is proving that doesn’t have to be the case.

Every time I decide I want to eat a little healthier, I seem to come across the same advice; Plan every meal, batch cook and decide your full week’s menu in advance . . . which resulted in hours spent in the kitchen on a Sunday on what’s supposed to be a day of rest, a mountain of washing up and then very repetitive meals for the next seven days.

That is why Grubby caught my attention. Instead of relying on traditional meal prep, the plant-based subscription is designed to make healthy eating easier through a mix of fresh meal kits and ready meals.

That means I can actually eat something different and tasty every night, I don’t have to spend a long time cooking and there’s a very minimal amount of washing up to be done after I’ve eaten. It sounds like a winner all-round to me.

The concept of Grubbby is simple. When you feel there is time to cook, you can choose meal kits featuring recipes designed to take around 30 minutes or less to create. On busier days, however, when cooking is not possible, there are ready meals that can be heated in minutes. It means there is less pressure to plan every meal in advance while still having options available.

For me, that flexibility is Grubby’s biggest selling point. Healthy eating often falls apart for me when something comes up in my schedule that I didn’t expect, or I’m just too tired to put in the effort required. Before I know it, I’m back to convenience foods. But, having meals that fit around real life rather than feels far more achievable and makes me think this a healthy eating plan I might actually be able to stick to.

Everything on the menu is also plant-based, which is great for me because I’m vegetarian. Grubby was the UK's first fully plant-based recipe box and ready meal company, creating a menu focused entirely on plant-powered dishes. The approach appears to be centred on flavour, variety and convenience, and I love that.

Healthy eating does not necessarily fail because people lack good intentions. More often, it is because life gets in the way. A service that removes some of the planning, shopping and preparation while still offering balanced meals feels like an approach many busy people like myself could appreciate.
