A growing number of UK households are using AI-powered tools to manage contracts and spot potential savings across everyday bills

Household bills are one of those things most of us leave on autopilot, but a growing number of UK households are now using a service called Nous to keep track of their contracts and find cheaper deals automatically.

Nous is a UK-based bill-management platform that monitors things like energy, broadband and mobile contracts, then suggests alternatives when it spots potential savings.

Instead of acting like a traditional comparison site, the idea is that it handles much of the admin itself, while still giving users the final say on whether to switch.

The service works by tracking renewal dates and looking for like-for-like contracts that could cost less.

According to the company, households using the platform save an average of £534 when they switch through it, although savings will always vary depending on your current tariff and usage.

One of the biggest appeals is convenience. Many people stay on expensive standard tariffs simply because switching takes time, but Nous claims to remove much of that hassle by finding deals and handling the paperwork once you approve a change.

The platform also uses an AI assistant that can scan bills and flag areas where you may be overpaying.

Users can upload a statement or connect their email account, and the system will highlight potential savings or contract changes worth considering.

Membership currently costs £7.99 per month, but Nous says it won’t charge households until they’ve achieved their first £100 in savings.

As with any paid service, it’s worth weighing up whether the subscription fee makes sense for your situation, particularly if you’re already comfortable switching providers yourself.

It’s also important to remember that switching isn’t always the right move for everyone.

Fixed tariffs, exit fees and individual usage patterns can all affect the outcome, and any savings quoted should be treated as examples rather than guarantees.

That said, with millions of households still sitting on standard variable tariffs and potentially paying more than necessary, tools that simplify the process are becoming increasingly popular – especially for people who want to save money without constantly shopping around themselves.
