SwitchBot E-Ink Home Dashboard review: The smart weather station that does far more than forecast

The SwitchBot E-Ink Home Dashboard looks like a premium weather station, but its ability to automate your home and control smart devices makes it far more useful than first impressions suggest.

Most weather stations tell you whether to grab a coat before heading out. The SwitchBot E-Ink Home Dashboard can do that too – but it can also open your curtains, switch on a fan, start the robot vacuum and remind you about your first meeting of the day.

That's what makes it one of the most interesting smart home gadgets I've tested this year.

While SwitchBot describes it as a weather station, that only scratches the surface. Think of it instead as a low-power smart display that keeps an eye on your home while giving you instant access to the information you actually use every day.

Weather fans will find plenty to like. Connected to SwitchBot's temperature and humidity sensors, the dashboard can display current conditions, humidity, air quality, wind speed, visibility, sunrise and sunset times, alongside a seven-day forecast. The layout is fully customisable through the companion app, allowing you to prioritise the information that's most useful to you.

Where the Home Dashboard really earns its place, though, is when it starts talking to the rest of your smart home.

One tap can display your daily calendar, giving you an instant overview of appointments without reaching for your phone. Two further buttons can be assigned to almost any automation you can dream up. Mine opens and closes bedroom curtains, but you could just as easily switch on lights, activate a fan, control smart plugs or send your robot vacuum off to clean while you're making breakfast.

It's a simple idea, but one that quickly becomes part of your daily routine.

Pricing is competitive, particularly if you shop around. The recommended retail price is £109.99, but Amazon has regularly discounted it to £87.99. SwitchBot is currently offering an even bigger saving through its own website, with a voucher reducing the price to £82.49, and there are often worthwhile bundle deals if you're adding sensors or a Hub.

That's worth considering because this is a product that really shines as part of a wider SwitchBot ecosystem.

Add sensors, a Hub and a handful of connected devices, and it becomes a genuinely useful smart home control centre capable of automating dozens of everyday tasks. The Hub also adds Matter compatibility, making it easier to integrate with platforms such as Apple Home.

Verdict

The SwitchBot E-Ink Home Dashboard isn't the best choice if all you want is a weather station. There are dedicated weather displays offering more detailed meteorological data for similar money.

But if you're building a smart home – or already have one – this is one of SwitchBot's best products yet. It quietly becomes the device you glance at dozens of times a day, and before long you'll wonder how you managed without it.
