Uni's first fragrance, Rain, combines mimosa, lilac and patchouli in a lightweight water-based formula that's already earning glowing early reviews. After trying it for myself, it's quickly become one of my favourite new perfume launches.

I'm unsurprised by my instant fondness for Uni's Rain water-based perfume. It brings together some of my all-time favourite fragrance notes, including mimosa, lilac and patchouli.

As Uni's debut fragrance, it's also a bold choice. Launching with something subtle rather than bold and overpowering shows confidence, and it feels completely in keeping with the brand's skincare-first approach. The water-based formula is lightweight and refreshing, without the sharp alcohol hit you often notice with traditional perfumes.

It's available from SpaceNK for £72 for 50ml, or you could try the 10ml travel size for £28, although I’m confident you’ll wish you’d gone straight for the full-size bottle.

If you like to know exactly what's in your perfume, Rain opens with notes of rain, grapefruit and pollen before giving way to a heart of mimosa, peony and lilac. Patchouli, oakmoss and vetiver provide a warm, earthy base.

The result is a calm, clean and incredibly wearable scent with a brightness to the opening, lifted by citrus, before soft florals come into focus. I make no secret of my obsession with perfume, and this is one I absolutely love. It's understated, distinctive and completely addictive. I can see it being one of my most worn scents of the summer.

The packaging is another strong point. This would make the most beautiful gift. And the cute, quirky bottle will look fabulous on any dressing table.

Uni founder Alex Keating said: "If we were going to create a Uni fragrance, it had to be done the Uni way. It had to be insatiable. That moment when you catch someone's scent and instinctively lean in for another breath."

Mission very much accomplished, I'd say.
