This unusual view of Leeds General Infirmary from the early 1970s shows all four major extensions made to the original building. One the extreme right - with curved balconies - is the Brotherton Wing (1940). Another wing built just after the turn of the century is on its left and next to the original Infirmary is the Wellcome wing, the latest extension. Immediately behind is the Martin wing, built in 1961. This photo was taken on the balcony surrounding Leeds Town Hall by Yorkshire Evening Post photographer Peter Lowe in 1971. It is one of 16 photos charting the year in the life of the city centre and bring into focus a range of landmarks and news stories from the 12 months.
