These fantastic photos provide plenty of talking points and stand out memories from a year in the life of your Leeds at the dawn of a new decade. The gallery brings into focus life around the city centre and the suburbs during 1970. It was a 12 months which featured a visit to Leeds from singer-songwriter Cliff Richard whose star at the time was rising. He had found fame with Congratulations, a song which had two years earlier earned him the runners up spot as the UK’s entry in the Eurovision Song Contest. This collection of photos include city centre landmarks as well as memories from the suburbs with East Ardsley, Morley, Rodley, Bramley, Halton and Richmond Hill. The photos are a mix from the West Yorkshire Archive Service, Mr K. S. Wheelan and others published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service.
