It was the year a city cop shop closed before being demolished. The original Millgarth Police Station was built in 1878 and stood proud until early 1976 when it closed before being bulldozed three months later with a new headquarters built on the same site. This was 1976 and the photo is one of 19 charting a year of the life of your Leeds and its residents. City centre landmarks are featured as well as from around the suburbs with Pudsey, Hunslet, Woodhouse, Scarcroft and Burmantofts all featured. The photos are a mix from the YEP archive and others published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.
