These are some of the most popular nightclubs of the time from around Yorkshire, which hold fond memories for a generation of punters.
The clubs featured in this retro photo gallery attracted some huge names, from David Bowie and U2 to Kylie.
They include a super-club run by one of Britain’s most flamboyant businessmen, one venue known for its laser shows and 10p pints and another which when it opened was reputedly the biggest nightclub in Europe.
How many of these nightclubs do you remember? Is your favourite club of the 70s or 80s among them?

14. The Roxy
Today home to the O2 Academy, this landmark building on Sheffield's Arundel Gate entertained a generation of clubbers during the 1970s and 80s as the Roxy Disco, or simply the Roxy. The club, laid out over two floors, with a large stage on the ground floor, was visited by Pete Waterman and Michaela Strachan for their popular TV show Hitman and Her in the 80s and 90s, and attracted some big names, including Kylie Minogue, pictured here in October 1989. Other incarnations over the years include Top Rank and Steelys, and it also had a brief spell as St Thomas’s Church. | National World Photo: Sheffield Newspapers

15. Seventh Heaven
This popular Doncaster landmark has a fascinating history. The Grade II-listed Art Deco building on Duke Street began life as a Co-op building in the 1940s and has been home to the council's planning department and the discount store TJ Hughes but it is best known to many for its musical heritage. The Beatles played there early in their career, on August 8, 1962, and the venue has been known as Romeo and Juliets and Karisma, but to a generation of 80s clubbers it will always be Seventh Heaven. | National World Photo: National World

17. The Limit
The Limit hosted some huge names, often before they were famous. The legendary nightclub opened on West Street, Sheffield, in 1978 and ran for 13 years until 1991. U2 played there in their early days, to just 13 punters, and Wham! also performed to a tiny audience before they were big. The venue also played a big role in the rise of local bands like the Human League, ABC and Def Leppard. It is pictured here in 1981. | Picture Sheffield/Sheffield Newspapers Ltd Photo: Picture Sheffield/Sheffield Newspapers Ltd

18. Martine's
Martine's, located in the Corn Exchange cellars in Leeds, was billed as the 'best discotheque around' and many former punters would say it lived up to the tag. One person recalled how the venue, pictured here in November 1980, was afor a time the only night club in Leeds which would let you in wearing jeans. | Leeds Libraries, www.leodis.net Photo: Leeds Libraries, www.leodis.net
