Leeds was busy scrubbing up its city centre in 1973. Yet your Yorkshire Evening Post reported how it looked “as though someone emptied the washing up bowl down the wastepipe of Wellington Street.” The image is one of 21 photos charting a year of memories from around the city centre. The gallery is made up of photos from the Yorkshire Evening Post archive, many of which have been digitised for the first time. The collection brings into the spotlight a range of stories making the headlines during the 12 months as well as landmarks and streets such as Leeds Town Hall, The Headrow, East Parade, Wellington Street, Park Row and Quebec Street.
