Simon Jose and Simon Norfolk were two great examples of young 20 somethings keen to forge a future away from the clutches of unemployment. The pair had launched a new monthly magazine called Northern Kickback on the news stands. And to promote the achievement, Roy Kinnear - a governor of the charity Instant Muscle, which had helped the pair with business advice and financial backing - came to the city to meet them. This was Leeds in 1986 and the photo is one of more than 20 documenting the year in this wonderful gallery of memories. City centre landmarks are featured as well as reflections from the city’s suburbs with Chapeltown, Armley, Pool, Stourton and Roundhay Park all in focus.
