The Vine on The Headrow served generations of city centre regulars and when this photo was taken in 1981 was a popular haunt with Leeds United fans on a matchday. It is one of 22 photos which tell the story of the year which will be remembered by many people for different reasons. It was a 12 months which saw arches on Wellington Street earmarked for demolition to make way for a massive office warehouse and hotel complex and the end of an era for a city centre cinema. And Leeds United broke their club record transfer when they signed Peter Barnes from West Bromwich Albion. These photos serve up city centre memories as well as those from the suburbs with Armley, Temple Newsam, Chapel Allerton and Harehills all in focus. The photos are a mix from the YEP archive and others published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service.
