All roads lead to Seacroft in this gallery of memories charting a decade in the life of the east Leeds suburb. The 1960s is the direction of travel with a wide range of local landmarks featured in this wonderful collection of photos. It proved to be a decade of enormous change for the community, in part thanks to the opening of Seacroft Civic Centre, the first large scale shopping and civic centre development serving a large area to the outskirts of the city. The centre was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II and was planned to feature 71 shops, 60 maisonettes, 4 large stores, office blocks, banks, restaurants, estate office and pub. The 24 photos which make up this gallery are a mix from the YEP archive and others published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.
