The main photo in focus features a footbridge which was part of a short-lived scheme to provide pedestrian access to all buildings in this part of the city centre at first-floor level. This was Leeds in 1988 and other notable memories from the 12 months include the opening of Granary Wharf, a boutique shopping experience under the Dark Arches. City centre landmarks are featured in this gallery as well as memories from around the city suburbs with Harehills, Armley, Wetherby and Hyde Park all featured. The images are published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.
