This retro photo gallery captures some of the biggest queues around Yorkshire during the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s.
People are seen waiting in line for the Christmas sales, buses and trains, polio vaccinations and big football and cricket matches, among other things.
These nostalgic images show how queuing has always been as much a part of the British psyche as tea, fish and chips, and complaining about the weather.
While our propensity for forming an orderly queue has not changed, many things have.
The lost shops pictured include Debenhams, C&A and the much-missed Lewis’s and Schofields department stores in Leeds.
Sheffield’s famous Hole in the Road subway also features, long before it was filled in to make way for the new tram system, with ‘Beat the Budget’ shoppers seen queuing there for cigarettes.
Do these photos bring back any happy memories for you? What’s the biggest queue you’ve ever joined in and was it worth the wait?
