Acuminous photos take you back to Armley in the 1940s

These wonderful photos chart a decade in the life of Armley during the 1940s.

A range of local landmarks are featured in this gallery of memories from the decade, some of which was lived against the backdrop of the Second World War. Bombing raids in March 1941 brought death and destruction to LS12. Landmarks in focus include the asbestos factory of J. W. Roberts, St Mary's Hospital, Armley Bridge Works and Amen Corner. The photos are a mix from the YEP archive and others published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.
