Boar Lane in the 1970s: Shops, pubs and restaurants in focus

These photos are sure to evoke memories for a generation of city centre shoppers, drinkers and diners.

They turn back the clock to the 1970s and showcase life on Boar Lane in Leeds city centre. Bargain-hunters will remember a vast array of shops while restaurants such as The Golden Egg, White Horse and the Elysee fed hungry diners. And The Peel pub and The Griffin Hotel made sure revellers never went thirsty. The images are a mix from the YEP archive and others published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.
