Last orders had been called at The Bridgefield pub at the junction of Cross Green Lane and Pontefract Lane when this photo was taken in August 2003. Despite plans to refurbish it at one point, all attempts to save it came to nothing as it was eventually demolished. The photo is one of 14 charting life around Cross Green in the early 2000s. The first three years of the new millennium featured severe fires at well-known businesses while travellers set up home in the heart of the community. The images are a mix from the YEP archive and others published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.
