These wonderful photos chart a year in the life of Armley and its residents in the late 1960s. They turn the clock back to 1967 and bring into focus a range of landmarks which include Armley National School which opened in 1832. It was converted from an Upper Boys School to Higher Grade in 1883, one of only two in the area offering education past the compulsory age of 13. Later it became the boys part of St Bartholomew’s, the girls and infants being based on Wesley Road. It had closed a year when the main photo from this gallery was taken. It is one of more than 15 charting life around the west Leeds suburb and also features a range of streets and homes which were demolished as part of slum clearance. The images are published courtesy of West Yorkshire Archive Service and others published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service.
