This washing drying across a road in Harehills in the 1970s should give a clue as to what day of the week this photo was taken. It was a typical scene of a Monday washday when housewives used the space of the roadway as a drying ground. It was a drying method which proved somewhat of a ‘traffic stopper’. This photo was taken on Bayswater Row in the early 1970s and is one of 12 charting memories of the decade in the suburb. The photos are sure to evoke memories for a generation of people who called Harehills dome during the 1970s. The gallery is powered using photos from the Yorkshire Evening Post archive, a few of which have been digitised for the first time.
