The Dog and Gun Inn on York Road benefited from construction of the Gipton estate which brought with it a new generation of regulars. The photo is one of 16 charting a decade in the life of the community. It brings together memories of shops, local landmarks as well as an intriguing bird’s eye view of LS8. The images are published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.
