Heuristic photos take you back to Harehills in the 1930s

Thousands of revellers have walked through these doors down the decades.

They take you inside the Fforde Grene on Roundhay Road, a pub which welcomed generations of drinkers before last orders were called for the final time in the early 2000s. This photo was taken just months after the boozer opened in November 1938. The image is one of 11 charting a decade in the life of Harehills and its residents in the 1930s. Other landmarks in focus include the Clock Cinema as well as Clock Buildings. The photos are published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.
