Magniloquent photos take you back to Moortown in the 1930s

It was a decade which featured a doorman in uniform greeting cinema-goers in a Leeds suburb.

The warm welcome was provided at the Corner House Cinema on Harrogate Road in Moortown during the 1930s. The photo is one of 12 charting a decade in the life of the community and its residents with street scenes, shops and local landmarks all under the spotlight. The images are published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.
