Reliable photos take you back to Leeds city centre in 1949

This is what congestion looked like in Leeds city centre at the end of the 1940s.

This gallery of memories transports you to the heart of Leeds in 1949 with lorries, cars, vans, buses and trams waiting patiently on Leeds Bridge to get onto Briggate. This collection of photos from the year also feature city centre landmarks, shops and familiar streets. The images are published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.
