Remarkable photos take you back to Roundhay in the 1920s

These remarkable photos take you back to Roundhay in the 1920s.

They start with a bird’s eye view of Roundhay Park, taken from an altitude of 2,500ft. An event is in progress, spectators line the arena and sit on Hill 60 in the foreground. This was the traditional home of Leeds Children's Day, the Printer's Gala and countless other outdoor events. The photo is one of 10 showcasing life around the suburb during the decade with local landmarks and news stories making the headlines all in focus. It was a decade which featured the opening of electric tramways, constructed on private right of way, between Harehills and Canal Gardens. The images are published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.
