The story of the Leeds landmark with a focus on child's play
Lost Leeds landmarks: Memories of Seacroft’s adventure playground
It’s the landmark which boasted a focus on child’s play.
The adventure playground in Seacroft will be remembered by generations of residents in the east Leeds community.
It was opened on Kentmere Approach in the 1960s.
Yet by the late 1980s it lay overgrown, deserted and rat-infested prompting the death knell to be sounded by councillors. It was to be demolished and cleared after complaints from local residents.

It was revealed no more money was to be put into the site when this photo was taken in October 1989 which over the decades had swallowed up countless thousands of pounds in grants since it was opened.
The playground had been set up as a voluntary organisation run by a management committee made up of mainly local people.

A council report said the playground was successful at first and was encouraged by the education committee.
A full time play leader was seconded to the site from 1970 to 1985 and part-time was staffing was provided from 1986 to 1988.
