They track train travel across Yorkshire from the late 1930s, before the railway service was nationalised, through the new golden age of the 40s and 50s, when British Rail was formed and modern diesel and electric trains replaced the old steam engines.
This retro photo gallery also charts the effect of the savage Beeching cuts in the 60s, which resulted in more than 2,000 stations being closed, and takes us right up to the 90s and the demise of British Rail, as our train services were handed back into private ownership.
In one evocative scene from the 70s, a long disused station is reborn amid great fanfare.
Another atmospheric black-and-white image marks the end of an era as one of the last passenger trains to depart from a once-bustling station is waved off.
It is one of several lost stations pictured in this locomotive trip down memory lane, from small country stops to major city hubs.
As well as the railway stations, these photos chart the evolution of our trains, from elegant steam locomotives to Deltic Class diesels and modern electric vehicles.
They also show some of the many characters who have helped make our journeys smoother and more enjoyable over the years, with popular stationmasters among the loyal servants you may recognise from years gone by.
Do these photos bring back any memories for you, and how do you think today’s railway services compare to those when you were growing up?
