Bolero Cup: Torvill & Dean celebrate new Olympic stars at iceSheffield
ICE dance legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are at iceSheffield this weekend for the first ever Bolero Cup - a new international competition celebrating the future of the sport.
Amongst the world’s best skaters taking part are Britain’s new stars Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson, who are debuting their 2026 Olympic routine - a medley of Spice Girls hits and Scottish tunes, writes Graham Walker.
And they are top of the leader board after the first day.

The Cup is named after Torvill and Dean’s own 1984 Olympic gold winning Boléro dance when they became the highest-scoring figure skaters of all time for a single programme, receiving twelve perfect 6.0s and six 5.9s.
Organised by British Ice Skating, The Bolero Cup , featuring skaters from around the world, began on Friday and concludes Saturday, September 6.

Torvill and Dean met up with Fear and Gibson at iceSheffield, marking a symbolic handover between generations of British skating.
Jayne said: "We're very excited that the Bolero cup is a new international competition, and obviously delighted that we're going to be here to present the trophy.”

Christopher said: “Lila and Lewis know exactly what they need to do. They've been competing together now for several years, and their experience. will kick in. They've felt the pressure, and it's been a build for them.
“Everybody should buy a ticket to these events in Sheffield -you're getting the creme de la creme of skating. It’s not very often you have that opportunity on your doorstep, and you will also be supporting Lilah and Lewis as well as all our British competitors at the European Championships. It's going to be an exciting competition.”

British-Canadian Lilah and Lewis, from Prestwick, Scotland, confirmed they wil be performing their 2026 Olympic routine at both events in Sheffield and revealed the songs they are dancing to.
Lewis said: “We unveil it here today. Actually, for the rhythm dance, we'll be doing Spice Girls songs.”
Lilah said: “We’re doing Wannabe, Viva Forever and Spice Up Your Life. And then for a free dance, it'll be a Scottish medley.”
In a homage to his roots, Lewis said; “So it'll be 500 miles by The Proclaimers Auld Lang Syne and the Bonnie Banks Of Loch Lomond.”

Sheffield’s own Luke Digby, from Fulwood, will also skate on home ice with partner Anastasia Vaipan-Law at the ISU Figure Skating European Championships after a top-five finish at the 2025 European Championships in Tallinn — the best result by a British pair in over 30 years.
