Hop to it for 'Eggcellent' Easter fun at the National Coal Mining Museum

Families are in for an unforgettable adventure this Easter at the National Coal Mining Museum for England - where an amazing two weeks of activities promises fun for all ages.
From free Easter egg trails to creative family workshops and Minecraft magic, there’s lots of extra highlights at Wakefield area venue now until Sunday, April 12 - closed Mondays and Tuesdays, writes Graham Walker.
For families who love the great outdoors, check out the spring scavenger hunts running on April 3, 8 and 10 - nature back packs can be picked up from reception.
Creative minds can dive into the wonderfully imaginative world of artist Jason Wilsher-Mills at the Make a Miniverse! family workshop.
Throughout the holidays, families can craft their own fantastical mini characters and bring them to life through digital animation.
Easter wouldn’t be complete without a classic egg hunt, and on Sunday, April 5, families can enjoy The Big FREE Easter Pit Top Trail.

Spread across the Museum’s almost 50 acre spaces, this cracking adventure invites young explorers to hunt for hidden eggs, collect letters and solve a mystery word along the way, getting a delicious chocolate treat at the end.
For puzzle-loving families, the Museum’s Minecraft-inspired Escape Room in a Box on Wednesday, April 8, offers the perfect challenge.
Teams work together to crack clues, solve puzzles and see if they can beat the clock in this imaginative, game-themed adventure designed for children aged seven and above.
On Saturday, April 11, visitors can journey deep into the wonders of the natural world at Geology Rocks! It’s a full day of rock- and fossil-themed fun, complete with demonstrations, shows and guided tours.
The following day, adults can try their hand at floristry during the Spring Bulb Wreath Workshop, creating beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces inspired by the season.
The fun continues throughout the holidays with a wide range of drop-in activities.
Families can travel back nearly 200 years in the interactive Time Tunnel, dig deep into their creative side in the Makers’ Shed, discover fascinating living history performances and enjoy a ‘roar’some dino themed trail.
Lynn Dunning, CEO, said: “Our Museum is the perfect spot for families this Easter. With lots of festive activities and fascinating opportunities to get hands on with history. Our outdoor and indoor spaces offer exciting activities no matter what the weather. There are free activities happening right across the holidays making it a pocket friendly day out.”
