Are you as over winter as we are? It’s time to think about a life filled with sunshine and laughter with a local camping break this spring.

If you need to blow the cobwebs away, there’s nothing better than a few days outdoors, making memories around a campfire and sleeping under canvas.

And you don’t have to trek across the country to find the perfect spot – we’re spoiled for choice just a stone’s throw from the city.

Here’s our pick of some hidden gems and scenic sites where you’re guaranteed to get away from it all…

Woodsworth Exploring

Set over 10 acres on the edge of Oakworth, this woodland campsite offers an incredible back-to-nature experience for families. With large clearings for tents and hammocks, children can enjoy so much freedom on a site created to have as little impact on the natural environment as possible. The site's dog-friendly policy means the whole family, including pets, can enjoy their stay. And if pitching your own feels like too much effort you can even opt to hire a pre-pitched bell tent that sleeps up to six.

Aarons Campsite

Nestled on the outskirts of Hebden Bridge, Aarons Campsite offers a traditional camping experience in jaw-dropping Pennine surroundings. The on-site bar, open on Fridays and Saturdays, provides a space to let your hair down but it’s all quiet in the campsite itself – that means no amplified music of any kind. Well-behaved dogs are very welcome, and kids will love the chance to run free in this expansive site that’s packed with wildlife, offering a genuine chance to get back to nature.

Esholt Camping and Caravan Site

Nine miles from Leeds lies the picturesque village of Esholt – also known as the real-life setting for Emmerdale. This friendly and informal site is the perfect escape from the rat race; there are no frills, but plenty of peace and quiet… plus the chance to have a pint at the Woolpack Inn. The site has tons of space for little ones to stretch their legs and it’s within easy reach of Bradford if you fancy an urban excursion.

Riverside Glamping and Caravan Park

Enjoy the outdoors life without having to pitch a tent at this site, which offers eco pods with heating and camp beds: you just need to bring everything else. The best bit? Each pod has its own picnic table and fire pit, and the bathroom facilities are spotless. The village of Ripponden boasts a number of great pubs and cafés, many with excellent gardens, and there’s even a farm shop a five-minute walk away.

Whitegate Leisure Caravan and Camp Site

You’ll find some of the best views of the Holme Valley from this campsite just outside Holmfirth and close to epic cycle trail Route 68 as well as Britain's highest vineyard. It’s a stunning spot to park your campervan or pitch your tent – you can’t get bored of the spectacular views and huge skies, and the vineyard and a farm shop packed with local produce are just a short walk away.
