Delhi Wala Food restaurant, just steps away from Leeds station, is the perfect stop-off for after-work snacks and drinks, a leisurely lunch, or delicious dinner date.

Forget soggy sandwiches, boring burgers or another monotonous meal deal, this restaurant offers a vibrant choice of dishes, a unique fusion of flavours and an experience like no other.

Transport yourself to the bustling colourful streets of Delhi as you get ready to treat your tastebuds to a meal to remember.

Post-work treats

When you’ve just finished work, the sun is out and the days are long, why head for the crush of the evening commute, when you could relax at Delhi Wala with some finger-food snacks from the street-food and Thali menu and a beer or two, and share the experience with friends and colleagues.

With an extensive lunch menu, snacking and smaller bite options including bhajis, samosas, breads, spring rolls, kebabs, chats, momos and more, a full menu of curries all kinds and a vegan menu with starters, mains and desserts, diners really are spoiled for options.

Owner and proud chef Nitin Sharma has poured all his 25 years of cooking experience – from early days in India, to being an international chef serving three-course dinners to Dubai Royalty at five-star restaurants – and his passion, into creating an exciting foodie fusion menu for his own Leeds restaurant.

A vegan’s delight

“We have so much choice on the menu,” said Nitin. Because every meal is cooked fresh the spice levels can be adjusted to any palate. Whilst the Indian street food dishes will please those looking for an authentic taste of India, the fusion foods add some fun and freshness to the food choices.

And with a separate vegan menu – from starters to curries, breads, sides, Indo-Chinese dishes, street food and desserts – vegan chocolate fudge cake anyone? There’s even a vegan kids menu.

“We have a lot of fans among the vegan community,” says Nitin. “There’s no fake chicken here, it’s fresh and tasty vegan food and an extensive menu.”

All the menus are mouth-watering. Alongside a choice of Indian street food and Thali (a dish of smaller portions of various curries, rices and sundries like a tasting platter) there are desi pastas, burgers with a twist and Indo-Chinese combos.

Why go for an ordinary sandwich, when you could sink your teeth into a stuffed paratha? Why have a humdrum hamburger when it could be a Samosa burger with salad and masala chips? Why have a slice of margharita pizza when you could have a chicken tikka naan pizza?

Lunch could be a seekh kebab burger perhaps, or allo tiki burger, a paneer naan pizza, chilli paneer with rice and honey chilli potatoes, chilli prawn pasta or a deliciously sweet peshwari paratha.

We are really proud to offer such good value lunches,” says Nitin. “All our dishes offer something completely different, but they are all around the £10 mark as we want to offer our customers the best value.

Delhi Wala Food, at 88, Bishopgate Street, was crowned Indian Street Food of the Year at the Nation's Curry Awards 2026, making its third consecutive victory at the awards.

Owner Nitin Sharma has every reason to be proud of the restaurant, the menu and its achievements, and the fact that all the dishes in the restaurant are made from scratch, with care and love.

Cooking with care

Nitin and the team are very careful when it comes to ingredients, and their customers. They have a long list of potential allergens and can advise anyone who may have foods they need to avoid. And with the huge choice for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans, nobody will go hungry.

He’s worked alongside Master Chef Sanjeev Kapoor at The Yellow Chilli in Wembley and at the (now closed) Marco Pierre White New York Italian.

Delhi Wala came about when a friend asked Nitin to cater for his son’s birthday back in 2016 – it was a personal favour for a pal but he saw the demand, and love for Indian food.

Word of mouth led to more private catering, then a stall at a food festival – where his food sold out in two hours.

The Leeds venue opened its doors to the city in September 2022 and has been delighting diners ever since.

If you’ve not tried it then you’re missing a treat!
