Spice House in Halton is the toast of the city after scooping the Best Restaurant in Leeds category in the 2025 Curry Life Magazine awards this month.
For the family-run business it’s the icing on the cake after 17 years of serving up tasty fusion Indian and Bangladeshi food to Yorkshire diners.
And with excellent google reviews and a customer base including people who have been visiting every single week since 2008, manager Syed Ahmed says “we must be doing something right!”
The awards judges definitely agreed, naming Spice House, at 249 Selby Road, as their number one in Leeds. The magazine has been running the event for more than 20 years, and only awards the best chefs, restaurants and takeaways in the country, with a very high standard being sought.
The restaurant has also previously been a runner up in the best restaurant in Leeds (all varieties) organised by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

What makes Spice House special?
Partly it’s the cosy feel – with just 45 seats, it has the beautiful balance of not too big, not too small. And then there’s the major renovation which took place in 2024, decking the interior out in a stylish, modern, well-lit design with tasteful colours.
But top spot surely goes to the food, where the head chef is constantly striving to create something special.
In fact, says Syed, nothing gets on to the menu at Spice House until it is taste-tested by some very willing regular customers, and gets scored 10 out of 10!
Menu favourites
One of the most popular is the delicious Nawabi Patil, a pure Indian choice packed with authentic flavours on a base of chicken tikka.
Or how about the chef’s special chicken, a butter fried tandoor chicken cooked with keema, almond and chef’s own spices, garnished with an omelette.
Fancy something a little bit different? Try tandoor chicken off the bone, cooked with fresh garlic, ginger, coriander and spices, served in a sizzling pot with red pepper and a touch of brandy. A winter warmer if ever there was one!

What real people say
You know the phrase the proof is in the pudding? Well, for restaurants, its real feedback from diners that tells the story.
One eat-in diner wrote: “Absolutely love Spice House. The food is always full of flavour and the service is super friendly. Great portions, great prices, and a really nice atmosphere. Easily one of my go to places in the city!”
And take-away customer Leon Bamforth said in his five star google review: “The owner is always friendly, the food is delicious. Dependable, high quality food. Definitely recommend! I went tonight and asked the owner to suggest something. The curry was bursting with flavour, had high quality ingredients and was delicious. A lot of care had gone into that curry. Thank you!”
