What time does England vs Mexico kick-off in the UK? Full timing breakdown for Leeds viewers

How late do you need to stay up to watch the game? ⏰

England fans are facing a late night if they want to tune into the Three Lions’ next World Cup match.

Following Harry Kane’s heroics against DR Congo, Thomas Tuchel’s men will be back in action against Mexico very soon. Travelling to the co-hosts capital of Mexico City to play at the famous Azteca, it promises to be another tough test.

For the first time in this World Cup, England fans face a very late night if they want to watch the action as it happens. Unlike Wednesday’s (July 1) knock-out game, the match is set to kick-off in the early hours of the morning back home.

But when exactly is the game due to begin and how late could it finish?

Despite talk that the game was going to be moved to Sunday (July 5) evening, the match is expected to kick-off as planned at 1am on Monday (July 6). Due to differences in time zones, that is 6pm local time in Mexico.

However, thunderstorms could see kick-off potentially delayed - it has been warned. The rules mean that if a lightning strike is detected within eight miles of a stadium at the World Cup, the game has to be halted.

Before it can kick-off again, there must be no more lighting strikes for 30 minutes - and each time one is detected, the thirty minute clock starts again. So, the England game may end up starting even later than currently expected.

How to watch England vs Mexico?

The match is set to be broadcast live on BBC One and iPlayer in the UK. Once again, the World Cup is split between the broadcaster and ITV.

England vs Mexico is set to be one of the games on the Beeb. If you are not staying up, fans can also wake up to a completely spoiler-free BBC iPlayer before choosing how to relive the action – whether it is tuning in to a full re-run on BBC Two at 7.10am to share the experience with fellow fans.
