Dominic Calvert-Lewin's declaration on Leeds United win at Man United and Lisandro Martinez hair pull red card
Dominic Calvert-Lewin played a key role in helping Leeds United to a historic win at Manchester United.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has given his reaction to Leeds United’s huge 2-1 victory at Manchester United with a determined declaration and view of the Lisandro Martinez red card for pulling his hair.
Calvert-Lewin was heavily involved throughout as Leeds recorded a first league win at Old Trafford for 45 years thanks to a first half brace from Noah Okafor.
A dominant Leeds side could have been out of sight by the interval and Manchester United’s task was then made even harder midway through the second half as Red Devils centre-back Martinez was shown a straight red card for pulling Calvert-Lewin’s hair.
Calvert-Lewin, though, said he holds no grudges towards Martinez as he simply admitted he felt his hair being pulled so told referee Paul Tierney as the rest took care of itself.
Despite the Red Devils sitting third in the table, Calvert-Lewin also declared that his team specifically came to Old Trafford to win and executed their game plan for what the striker admitted was a huge boost to the club’s survival prospects.
“He is the one that makes the decisions at the end of the day”
Speaking post match to Sky Sports, Calvert-Lewin said: “It's a massive result for us. We knew that coming into the game, we came here to win, that's how we set up and we executed the game plan and obviously came away with three points so we are delighted."
Asked if he expected a red card for Martinez puling his hair, the Leeds striker reasoned: “I don't know, I don't make the rules at the end of the day.
"I felt my hair get pulled and obviously told the ref and he is the one that makes the decisions at the end of the day so it's unfortunate for him.
"Whether he's meant it or not, I don't hold no grudges but it is what it is isn't it."
