Former Everton star delivers 'fantastic' verdict Leeds United fans will love

Leeds United have put themselves in a strong position to remain in the Premier League after an impressive run of form.

Leeds United battled their way to what could be a crucial point in Monday night’s visit to Premier League rivals Everton.

There could have been an even more lucrative reward for Daniel Farke and his players after James Justin fired them in front just before the half-hour mark in their first ever visit to the Toffees’ brand new Hill Dickinson Stadium. However, the hosts hit back with just quarter of an hour remaining as former Villarreal striker Thierno Barry grabbed his fourth goal in his last five league games to ensure the spoils were shared on Merseyside.

The draw with Everton means the Whites are sitting six points clear of the relegation zone and are one of the most in-form sides in the top flight of English football after losing just one of their last 11 games in all competitions and that came on the back of a strong display against European contenders Newcastle United.

The focus over the coming days will go on attempts to boost Farke’s squad ahead of a hectic final four months of the season and the Whites remain keen on a deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Jorgen Strand Larsen. However, there is also a need to ensure they are fully prepared for next Sunday’s home clash with current Premier League leaders Arsenal, who will travel to Elland Road looking for a first league win in four games after claiming just two points from an away game at Nottingham Forest and home clashes with Liverpool and Manchester United.

Confidence is understandably high at Elland Road as Farke and his players look to produce another eye-catching result that would hamper their visitors’ bid for a first Premier League title in over two decades - and former Everton and England defender Conor Coady believes their strong form and impressive performances have given them an ‘extra little bit of impetus’ as they look to remain in the top flight.

The former Everton star said: “They (Leeds) said they want to start picking up wins, keep picking up points, keep on picking them up. It’s hard when you’re down there, and the wins will come, the confidence will grow, and as we’ve seen with Leeds, they’re a fantastic team. Daniel Farke mentioned that it wasn’t just since Manchester City, with the formation, they’ve had good performances before then, that has just given them that extra little bit of impetus now, where they’re picking up more and more.

“They’re doing brilliantly, absolutely brilliantly, that was vital tonight considering the way the weekend’s gone with West Ham obviously winning, Forest going and beating Brentford so it was big that they went into it and didn’t lose, that might sound a bit negative to people but when you’re down there, and its building and its building and its building, the more points you pick up, it’s vital when you’re there just to give you that bit of confidence so that is massive for Leeds tonight.”
