'Leeds don't look like a team going down': Former Chelsea forward on Leeds' performance against Brentford

Former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin has praised Leeds United after they came back from a goal down to secure an all-important point in their quest for Premier League survival.

Leeds United have been described as a team that “don’t look like going down” after their upturn in form continued with a point away from home against Brentford.

Daniel Farke’s side have picked up five points from their last three games to build a gap between them and West Ham in the nearest relegation position and show they are up for the fight to stay in the top-flight this season.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s superb header cancelled out Jordan Henderson’s opener for the home side, and the Whites will be encouraged by their performance away from Elland Road after their previous two positive results came in front of their own fans.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live after the game, former Chelsea forward and broadcaster Pat Nevin said: “As both managers shook hands there, it was Daniel Farke with a big smile there.

“A point away from home was always decent. They deserved it and look as if they've become acclimatised to the Premier League. It doesn't look like a team who's going to do down.”

That point was the Yorkshire side’s first draw on the road this season, with their only other points won away from home coming against bottom-of-the-table Wolves in September.

But this performance and their last display on the road against in-form title-chasing Manchester City, where they battled back from two down but lost out to a late winner, will breed confidence in this side’s ability to pick up points away from Elland Road for the rest of the season.

The summer window free transfer from Everton did not steal any headlines when he made the move to Elland Road with a massive amount paid for other forwards in Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko.

However, this rich vein of form sees the English striker sit above all those names listed in the league’s top scorer charts, and he will be hoping this spell helps revive his career after lengthy spells on the sidelines at Everton due to injury.

Speaking about Calvert-Lewin's goal, Nevin said: “Dominic Calvert-Lewin lies in bed at night dreaming of crosses like that coming in. He leaps as good as anyone, but long before it reached him, he knew exactly where he was going to put there.

“It still hurts Everton fans that he's not there anymore, but give him those sort of crosses, and there are not many better in the Premier League to put them away.”

His manager also spoke highly of the goalscorer after the game. “Excellent player, we don't have to speak about it, he speaks for it himself,” Farke said. “Great team-mate, great human being and great worker on and off the pitch.

“One of the best English strikers we have, Harry Kane is playing in the Bundesliga, but he's one of the best English strikers in the Premier League."
