Alan Shearer makes prediction about Leeds United finishing position with Dominic Calvert-Lewin England verdict

Alan Shearer on Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s England call up and prediction for Leeds United vs Crystal Palace.

Alan Shearer has served up Leeds United praise with a prediction about the club’s finishing position and Sunday’s visit of Crystal Palace plus a Whites star England call.

Leeds are heading for Sunday’s hosting of Palace sat fourth in the very early Premier League table and still unbeaten having amassed eight points from their first four games.

Boss Daniel Farke again reiterated on Friday that the initial aim had to be achieving 40 points and a second season of top-flight survival but Shearer believes the Whites will ultimately seal a top-half finish in the club’s second year in the Premier League.

The former England star was particularly impressed with the way Leeds “batted” away his former Newcastle United side on Monday evening with a 4-1 win at Elland Road and Shearer expects Farke’s Whites to now beat Sunday’s visitors Palace.

In further praise, Shearer has saluted Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s England recall, labelling the Whites no 9 as a “proper handful” and his call-up as no surprise.

“I have been really impressed with Leeds,” said Shearer to Betfair.

“I did think that they'd have a top half finish in the league and I still believe that, the way they batted Newcastle in midweek was impressive.

“So, I'm going to go Leeds home win in this one.

“I guess other than Harry Kane, because he's got that spot for England, a motivation for Calvert-Lewin must be if he carries on then the England manager won't be able to ignore him.

“He’s a proper handful on his day. It doesn’t surprise me to see him in the England squad, especially with Ollie Watkins moving abroad to Saudi Arabia.”
