'Not sure they would' - Ex-Arsenal star makes Leeds United Daniel Farke claim with Lukas Nmecha declaration

An ex-Arsenal star has made a Leeds United Daniel Farke claim.

Former Arsenal star Alan Smith has made a Daniel Farke claim in outlining what he sees as Leeds United’s bigger problem.

Leeds are looking to buck the recent trend of newly-promoted teams going straight back down and sit one point clear of the dropzone after 11 games played.

Farke’s side had kicked six points clear of the bottom three with the 2-1 win at home to West Ham United at the end of last month but disappointing defeats at Brighton and Nottingham Forest have led to United’s cushion back to the bottom three being slashed.

Smith, though, is unsure if Leeds would get any better under a different manager, suggesting that deficiencies in United’s squad and in particular attack is a bigger issue that needs addressing in the January transfer window.

Leeds have netted just ten goals from their 11 games played so far this Premier League season and Lukas Nmecha bagged the most recent one upon being handed just a second league start of the season in the 3-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest before the international break.

“I don’t think he’s the answer”

Nmecha started as injury doubt Dominic Calvert-Lewin dropped to the bench but Smith does not believe Nmecha is “the answer” to United’s issues and feels attacking additions in January are needed to give the team “half a chance” of staying up.

Speaking in his latest column for Best Betting Sites, Smith said of Leeds: “I’m not sure they would improve if Farke were let go.

“They haven’t got the squad, I don’t think, to compete, to make a dent in a lot of teams. They haven’t got the attack. They’ve done okay at home at times. Elland Road has not been an easy place to visit.

“So I don’t know what the situation is with the manager. It would be a big call, and they’d certainly have to get the right man.

“But when you look at the problems up front, he dropped Calvert-Lewin for that defeat at Forest, and Nmecha scored.

“I don’t think he’s the answer, so whether they can do something in January to give themselves half a chance, we’ll have to wait and see.”
