Former Leeds United midfielder Alf-Inge Haaland is sticking to his guns in his fuming Norway versus England World Cup exit verdict.

Alf-Inge was again in the stands to watch Leeds-born son Erling and his Norway side take on England in Saturday night’s World Cup quarter-final in Miami in which the Norwegians twice looked on course to cause an upset.

Andreas Schjelderup’s cross-cum-shot into the top right corner fired Norway ahead in the 36th minute only for Jude Bellingham to equalise in the first-half stoppage time but Norway looked to have gone back ahead ten minutes after the break when Torbjørn Heggem netted from Patrick Berg’s corner.

Haaland, though, had shoved Elliot Anderson to the ground in the box just before Heggem netted and VAR intervened to advise referee Clement Turpin to check his monitor.

Turpin then ruled out the goal and England ultimately went on to seal a 2-1 victory in extra-time as Bellingham netted his second goal of the game.

It meant the brave run of the Norwegians was finally ended but Alfe-Inge made his feelings clear with a fuming six-word verdict on social media as he then stuck to his guns in a reply.

“Well done Bellingham and the referee,” wrote Alf-Inge.

In a later reply to a Tweet from Henry Winter saluting Bellingham, Alf-Inge wrote: “Really? Saved by the referee. Hope you win the WC now. But feel we got robbed today.”
