Fresh chance awaits Leeds United star after big change as potential new international boss confirms talks
A Leeds United star is set for a fresh international chance.
Leeds United star Anton Stach is set for a fresh international chance amid a massive boss change.
German midfielder Stach continually impressed in his first season at Leeds after joining the club from TSG Hoffenheim last summer and the 27-year-old’s displays led to an international recall with Germany for March’s international friendlies.
Stach was named in boss Julian Nagelsmann’s squad for the March friendlies against Switzerland and Ghana, Stach getting ten minutes from the bench against Switzerland but an unused substitute in the game against Ghana.
The Whites star appeared on course for a place in the team’s World Cup squad but Stach suffered an ankle injury towards the end of the season, casting any potential place in the squad in doubt.
The injury was ultimately not serious yet Stach was still omitted from Nagelsmann’s squad for this summer’s tournament in the USA, Mexico and Canada.
Without him, Germany progressed to the competition’s knockout stages as winners of Group E but the team then suffered a shock exit in the last 32 through a 4-3 defeat on penalties to Paraguay following a 1-1 draw after extra-time.
Boss Nagelsmann resigned from his role following the disappointing exit and Germany are now in talks with former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp about the vacant position, potentially offering Stach a fresh chance.
Klopp confirmed talks were ongoing, telling MagentaTV: “Yes, I can confirm the talks.
“Things moved pretty quickly. Julian stepped down. The DFB (German FA) are looking for a successor. And they're talking to me.
"What needs to happen now? Time. I'm under contract with Red Bull. I've said I'm interested in the talks. They will be intensive because this isn't only about Julian Nagelsmann.
"I have an existing contract with Red Bull. I've said many times how much I enjoy this job. As a person, I usually honour contracts. But I've also made it clear that I'm interested in talks with the DFB.
"I also have to speak with (Red Bull CEO) Oliver Mintzlaff. He's my employer. We've already touched on a few things. I assume he won't stand in the way. I've been there for 19 months. It was an intense time.
"I'm ready. Once the talks begin, your mind starts racing. We have to change things fundamentally. There will have to be intensive discussions, because, of course, the problems we currently have cannot be pinned only on Julian Nagelsmann.
“Julian is an exceptional coach, and he will be able to prove that time and again throughout his coaching career.”
