Fresh opportunity for Leeds United star upon huge international change but wait continues for teammate

A fresh opportunity for a Leeds United star following a huge international change.

Leeds United ace Anton Stach now has a fresh international opportunity following confirmation of a huge new boss appointment.

German midfielder Stach continually impressed in his first season at Leeds after joining the club from TSG Hoffenheim last summer and the 27-year-old’s displays led to an international recall with Germany for March’s international friendlies.

Stach was named in boss Julian Nagelsmann’s squad for the March friendlies against Switzerland and Ghana, the midfielder getting ten minutes from the bench against Switzerland but an unused substitute in the game against Ghana.

The Whites star appeared on course for a place in the team’s World Cup squad but Stach suffered an ankle injury towards the end of the season, casting any potential place in the squad in doubt. The injury was ultimately not serious yet Stach was still omitted from Nagelsmann’s squad for this summer’s tournament in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

Without him, Germany suffered a shock exit in the last 32 through a 4-3 defeat on penalties to Paraguay following a 1-1 draw after extra-time.

Major new appointment announced

Boss Nagelsmann resigned from his role following the disappointing exit and Germany have now appointed former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp as their new head coach.

The appointment offers a fresh opportunity to Stach who still only has three caps to his name.

Stach’s Leeds teammate Willy Gnonto has been in a not too dissimilar boat with Italy for whom the Whites winger has not played for since September 2023.

Italy are also on the hunt for a new manager following the team’s failure to even qualify for the World Cup.

Italy had been in talks with former Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola about becoming the team’s new head coach but Sky Sports News are reporting that Guardiola has turned down the role as the wait continues for Gnonto.
