Leeds United star given fresh international chance to shine ahead of World Cup as boss makes decision

A Leeds United star has a fresh chance to shine ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

Leeds United midfielder Ao Tanaka has been given a big fresh chance to shine ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

Tanaka has already been named in boss Hajime Moriyasu’s final 26-man squad for the World Cup, ahead of which Japan face an international friendly against Iceland at the MUGF Stadium in Tokyo today.

The game is an 11.25am kick-off UK time and Tanaka has been handed a big chance to shine in starting the game alongside Liverpool’s Wataru Endo in centre midfield.

Tanaka had started March’s friendly against Scotland in which he played 78 minutes of a 1-0 victory but the Leeds star was then named on the bench as his country took on England at Wembley.

Tanaka, though, made a decent impression against the Three Lions after being brought on 19 minutes left and the 27-year-old now gets a huge chance to shine in his side’s final friendly before the World Cup.
