Leeds United fans in Farke call, Aaronson disagreement and five 'Premier League level' displays v Aston Villa

Leeds United’s fans have had their say on Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa.

Leeds United sit in the Premier League dropzone after Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa - but what do the club’s fans think? Here is what our YEP Jury have had to say including disagreement over Brenden Aaronson, three Daniel Farke problems and praise for five Premier League displays against Unai Emery’s side.

DAVID WATKINS

Oh Leeds! Another game where we were every bit the equal of the opposition, had an early lead which we kept easily until the break, recorded more big chances, but then conceded two soft goals to lose it.

Once again, defensive naivety, fragility, lack of focus, whatever you care to call it, has been our downfall.

For all that we are not scoring many (only Wolves have scored fewer), the big issue remains that the defence leaks too many goals too easily.

Leeds were the better side throughout the first half, but after Villa reorganised at the break, it was they who began the second half the stronger and conceding so early in the new half seemed to throw us completely.

For me, Leeds tired in the second half while Villa got stronger, and it was only after going behind that we got our second wind. By then, it was too late.

I’m sure a lot of the criticism will be aimed at Brenden Aaronson again, and yet I’m convinced that if he is not on the pitch, our press would lose its pace and aggression.

Yes, he loses the ball too easily, but he is often the reason we have it in the first place; it’s a conundrum.

“Style of play, his substitutions and a seemingly unbreakable faith”

KEITH INGHAM

The 2-1 scoreline is bound to put more pressure on Daniel Farke and I’ve banged on enough about why I cannot understand why Brenden Aaronson is contributing very little, but is picked week after week.

Dan James showed why he should have started in his second-half appearance from the bench.

He was really unlucky that he had a goal disallowed for an earlier handball in the move.

Leeds started well and were in front within 10 minutes, Lukas Nmecha getting the final touch inside the six-yard box.

It was a decent half from them and they went into the break 1-0 ahead.

How things changed in the second half. Villa made changes and were level within five minutes of the restart with Morgan Rogers scoring his first of the day.

Leeds just didn’t get to the levels of the first half and went behind when Rogers scored from a free-kick that found a gaping hole to the right of where Perri was standing.

Everybody but the keeper could see where the Villa player would put the ball.

Sub Dan James then had the ball in the net but it was disallowed.

There has to be conversations on what happens now – Farke’s style of play, his substitutions and a seemingly unbreakable faith in a few players that simply aren’t performing.

“Positives were Premiership level performances”

NEIL GREWER

A damp day, a damp atmosphere, not a great game, and another game where Leeds competed, were always in the game and ultimately fell foul of fine margins, quality and Premier League experience.

Leeds started well and took a deserved lead when Lukas Nmecha blocked a clearance into the Villa net following a free-kick and subsequent goalmouth scramble.

Unfortunately at the start of the second half the left flank of the Leeds team gave Villa too much space and time, and a cross was converted by Morgan Rogers – easily avoidable.

On 75 minutes, a slip by Gabi Gudmundsson required a desperate challenge by Pascal Struijk which was adjudged a foul and Rogers easily converted the resultant free-kick with Lucas Perri stranded.

Leeds pushed, substitutes were deployed, and Dan James had a goal justifiably disallowed for handball whilst Struijk forced a good save from Martinez.

So a decent performance by all with no-one below a 6 out of 10, but still a defeat.

Positives were Premiership level performances by Joe Rodon, Jayden Bogle, Ethan Ampadu, Struijk and Nmecha but Leeds need to turn the fine margins.

“Could find themselves really under the cosh”

ANDY RHODES

After another defeat in the Premier League, serious questions of the team and management will ramp up.

You never got the feeling that Leeds were in control against Aston Villa.

Perhaps rightly so, Villa are a strong outfit.

However, if Leeds had stayed in the game and maybe found that second goal, they may have walked away with all three points.

The Whites looked good at times, they pressed Villa and created more chances than they have in a lot of games this season.

Defensively, particularly in the second half, the game was more ragged and the visitors picked Leeds off amidst the chaos.

Things will only get more difficult from here with three tough games to come.

On this form Leeds could find themselves really under the cosh at the Etihad next week.

You always hope for the best but when things look as bleak as this it’s hard to see the positives.

“But not good enough”

MIKE GILL

The prospects of staying above the relegation trap door were looking good on Saturday lunchtime.

Burnley lost at home to Chelsea as expected but then Forest and West Ham spoiled things.

The Hammers picked up a point at Bournemouth while Forest did the unthinkable and hammered Liverpool at Anfield.

United started well when Lucas Nmecha scrambled a shot home after Anton Stach had risen above Emi Martinez.

After a long wait, the validity of the goal was confirmed by VAR.

The Whites held on to the lead until the break and looked more than worth it.

Early in the second half, United once again gave away their precious lead when Donyell Malen crossed for Morgan Rogers to flick in

With 15 minutes left, Rogers scored again from a free-kick.

The wall was totally ineffective and Lucas Perri seemed rooted to the spot as the ball sailed into the net.

We all thought that United had equalised but Dominic Calvert-Lewin was shown to have handled the ball.

A good effort from the Whites but not good enough.

They looked far more dangerous when substitute Dan James came on but it was too late by then.
