Leeds United difference-maker vs Liverpool outlines future hope ahead of 2026/27 Premier League season

Brenden Aaronson and his Leeds United teammates will be back at Elland Road this weekend.

Brenden Aaronson hopes to continue proving himself with a Leeds United squad he loves in the best league in the world.

The 25-year-old enjoyed an excellent start to his pre-season campaign with Leeds, coming off the bench to make a major difference in Sunday’s 4-2 comeback win over Liverpool. He halved a two-goal deficit early in the second-half and set up fellow substitute Sean Longstaff to make it 3-2.

Aaronson felt like someone with a point to prove at Soldier Field, coming off the back of a frustrating World Cup homecoming in which he played just 76 minutes for the USA. The attacking midfielder is also yet to fully convince some fans in Leeds but what’s never in doubt is his work-rate.

“It’s a very tough league to play in, week in week out,” Aaronson told the Sports Bank. “It’s the best players in the world. I mean that’s why it is the English Premier League. It’s for me the best league in the world.

“It’s always been my dream, and I want to continue to have success with Leeds because I love the club and I love being a part of this team, and I love all the guys on the team. So for me, it’s just going there every day, and then trying to prove to everybody back home that we can have a lot of guys come overseas and play.”

Sunday’s win over Liverpool was the perfect end to an impressive pre-season tour of America for Leeds. Following an opening defeat to Wrexham, Daniel Farke’s side beat two Premier League rivals with Sunderland also defeated 1-0.

Aaronson and his teammates are now back in the UK and have a few days to prepare for their next friendly, a 120-minute meeting with RB Leipzig at Elland Road. Leeds have three more warm-up games before the proper stuff kicks off at Nottingham Forest on Saturday August 22.

“We have a lot of really good friendlies coming up,” he added. “Of course, we have Manchester United away in Dublin. We have Leipzig on the weekend coming up. We have Augsburg after that.

“It’s crazy to say that we’re only halfway through pre-season, but we are. We’re looking forward to these next three games to get some more minutes under our legs, and then get us ready for the new season.”
