Leeds United rivals agree £20m deal to sign ex-Whites attacker and former Bielsa youngster gets SPL side trial

A former Leeds United attacker is heading for a £20m move to Premier League rivals.

Leeds United’s Premier League rivals have agreed a £20m deal to sign a former Whites attacker.

Winger Jaidon Anthony spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Elland Road from Bournemouth before later joining Burnley on a permanent deal in May 2025.

Burnley are now heading back to the Championship following last season’s relegation but Anthony enjoyed a decent campaign personally and Brentford have now agreed a £20m deal in principle to sign the attacker from the Clarets.

The news was broken by transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano who reports that the deal is for a £17m fixed fee plus £3m add-ons and that Anthony is set to sign a five-year deal.

In other transfer news, a former Leeds youngster is set to be handed a trial by an SPL side.

Left back Liam McCarron joined Leeds from Carlisle United as an 18-year-old back in July 2019 and the defender was handed his first team debut by Marcelo Bielsa in the Premier League defeat at home to Arsenal of December 2019.

That, though, proved to be McCarron’s only outing for the first team and the left back eventually left the Whites to join Stoke City in June 2022.

After a loan spell at Port Vale, McCarron’s next moves took him to Northampton Town and then Boston United who the left back joined in February of this year.

McCarron, though, was released by Boston this summer upon his contract expiring and the Dundee Courier are now reporting that newly-promoted SPL side St Johnstone are set to take the 25-year-old on trail.
