Leeds United fans in disagreement over Brentford match and Willy Gnonto move suggestion
Leeds United’s fans have had their say on Sunday’s huge next Premier League clash at Brentford.
Fifth-bottom Leeds United face a massive game in the lower reaches of the Premier League at Brentford on Sunday - but what do the club’s fans think? Here is what our YEP Jury have had to say on the clash against the 14th-placed Bees at the Gtech including disagreement on the predictions front and a Willy Gnonto move suggestion.
KEITH INGHAM
How do you follow the last two games? An amazing win over Chelsea and a fightback to be very proud of against Liverpool – both games showed the good, the great but a couple of moments Leeds really need to stop doing.
It’s still very hard to criticise a squad that has clearly shown over three games that they are 110 per cent behind manager Daniel Farke.
Sunday brings a trip to London, never a happy hunting ground for Leeds.
We’ve been beaten already at Arsenal and were very unluckily lost to an injury time own goal at Fulham.
Let’s hope for a little more luck at Brentford.
Farke will be without Longstaff, James and possibly Nmecha at Brentford but hopefully all that contributed to the marvellous 3-3 draw with Liverpool will be available for Sunday’s game.
I’m expecting a similar line up to Liverpool, with Okafor just behind Calvert-Lewin.
Another option alongside Calvert-Lewin could be Willy Gnonto, he put in a good performance when coming on in the second half of the Liverpool game.
I’ve been pretty negative with my predictions for the last three games but this time I’m confident of at least a point to bring back to Yorkshire.
Prediction: Brentford 1 Leeds United 1.
“You have to go back to 1950”
DAVID WATKINS
Results last week against three of the Premier League’s best have given Leeds fans hope that this can be a season of survival after all.
The big question now, though, is: Can we keep it up? I still worry that, defensively, we are not great.
We will get a good idea from this weekend’s trip to Brentford.
The Bees are in a similar situation to Leeds; they have just four more points than the Peacocks, having lost the same number of games, eight.
When Thomas Frank left the Bees for Spurs during the summer, and they lost several top players, Brentford were immediately touted for relegation, with his replacement, Keith Andrews, the set-piece coach under Frank, not believed to have enough experience in the top job.
Like Leeds, Brentford are flirting with danger, but of course, Brentford is a ‘London’ trip, and we all know how we have fared down there recently.
We have only won once in 13 games at Brentford, though that was at the new stadium, a victory under Jesse Marsch that helped Leeds retain their EPL status in 2022.
You have to go back to 1950 for the last away win before that. Our defensive frailty leads me to predict another narrow defeat.
Prediction: Brentford 1 Leeds United 0.
“This nonsense has to stop”
MIKE GILL
After four more points and two emotional nights at Elland Road, Leeds United travel to West London.
If you believe in curses, the Whites will not only be dealing with the curse of London but also the curse of virtually every away ground!
This nonsense has to stop and picking up a few points on the road has to be one of the keys to United’s eventual survival.
But will United come away from Brentford with any points on Sunday?
When Thomas Frank moved to north London in the close season, Keith Andrews stepped up from the role of technical coach at the Bees.
This was a surprising appointment as Andrews had never held the position of head coach at any level.
However, he has surprised a lot of people and Brentford are currently sitting in 14th place with 19 points.
This is only four more than the Whites and although it is a bit early for Leeds to be looking up the table instead of down, Daniel Farke’s men are more than capable of getting some form of a result.
The starting XI should be interesting but whatever it is, I’m expecting a good contest on Sunday afternoon.
Prediction: Brentford 2 Leeds United 2.
Striker top of the list
ANDY RHODES
After a really positive week for Leeds United, attention now turns to a tricky game in the dreaded capital.
Brentford are a handy side and have the fourth best home record in the division. As if a trip to London won’t be hard enough.
Leeds, though, are in great form having taken four points from two of last season’s title challengers.
Daniel Farke will hope that his side is relatively injury free to maintain their shape.
Leeds will have to watch out for Brentford’s dangermen – top of list will be striker Igor Thiago – but having handled some quality attacking players in the last few weeks, Farke’s players should be in a confident mood.
A win here would help Leeds further steer clear of early relegation worries but this will not be an easy game.
If ever there was a time to get a win in London and break the curse, this would be it ahead of a tricky run of fixtures to come.
Prediction: Brentford 2 Leeds United 0.
NEIL GREWER
The last three games have been exciting, productive and encouraging.
The team are clearly behind the manager and the match-going fanbase are behind the team.
Daniel Farke has answered many critics recently with his team changes, formation changes, and early, impactful use of substitutes.
The adaptability and flexibility many craved is, (well it was in the last three games), there for all to see.
So what will happen at Brentford? Which formation will start the game?
Brentford’s reliance upon set pieces may lean towards the 3-5-2 structure allowing full use of our taller players, but I am sure Farke’s backroom team will have fully analysed the Bees recent performances and select accordingly.
The hosts are only four points above the visitors, although they are formidable at home.
Leeds must not lose ground on Brentford as in the big picture, Brentford could be dragged into the relegation scrap.
Leeds are improving with some of the new signings looking Premier League quality, such as Anton Stach, Gabi Gudmundsson and Jaka Bijol, while fan favourite Ao Tanaka is looking better week by week.
Prediction: Brentford 1 Leeds United 1,
