Leeds United fond returns, Rutter warm-up telling off, full-time afters and off-camera Brighton moments
The YEP’s take and off-camera moments from Leeds United’s dramatic 1-0 victory against Brighton at Elland Road in the final home game of the Premier League season.
Leeds United completed their Elland Road season in a manner befitting their entire Premier League season.
The Whites secured a bit of a smash-and-grab victory with a stoppage time winner against Brighton in their final home game. Here's the YEP take.
Good day
Karl Darlow
Well worth his clean sheet. It was a performance that typified his contribution in net for Leeds this season. Although he only made one really good stop, he was needed so many more times and did the sensible thing on every occasion.
Jaka Bijol
Could be on the beach but the thought of phoning it in has obviously never entered his formidable Slovenian head. Defended the box like he and Leeds needed the win and the clean sheet.
Daniel Farke
Had his name sung by Elland Road at various points as he guided them to another really impressive performance and result. Leeds nullified Brighton's style and danger so many times and as they have all season stayed in it to the end, so there was always the chance of a victory.
Sam Byram
Came onto the pitch for the final few minutes and did his bit to defend, but if it had not been for his slightly wayward pass down the line, the winner might never have come. A win and a clean sheet on what is almost certainly his final Elland Road appearance. One to savour.
Bad day
Anton Stach
The German was stretchered off in the second half in what was a really worrying scene, for Leeds and for his World Cup hopes. It was a pretty innocuous incident, just a bump in the air and then an awkward landing.
Fabian Hürzeler
Couldn't mastermind the breakthrough against Leeds despite numerous changes and attempts and then appeared to lose his cool at full-time.
Georginio Rutter
Given a very generous hero's welcome by the Elland Road crowd, the attacker was unable to give Brighton that bit of magic he's known for. And was smashed by James Justin for good measure.
Off-camera
The world's most professional man James Milner lying on the ground outside the away dressing room stretching his hip with a theraband.
A grinning Lucas Perri applauding first team sports science chief Tom Robinson after the latter controlled a high pass, kept it up a couple of times and volleyed it back sweetly.
Daniel Farke and German compatriot Fabian Hürzeler having a chat in the tunnel prior to the warm-ups.
Ethan Ampadu showing no signs of his illness as he surged past two team-mates to win the ball and keep it during the possession game of the warm-up.
‘Paraag Marathe's guests narrowly avoiding being hit with the ball’
Paraag Marathe's guests narrowly avoiding being hit with the ball as Ao Tanaka tried to control it on the touchline.
Lukas Nmecha laughing as he came inches away from hitting a kit man with a curling shot. The kit man was standing in the goalmouth, to be fair to the striker. His next shot cannoned off the crossbar.
Georginio Rutter hugging Leeds coach Christopher John as the pair made their way towards the tunnel prior to the game.
Alex Cairns waiting for Jayden Lienou on the halfway line so he could give the youngster some encouragement.
Rutter getting a warm reception from the West Stand as he walked to the Brighton dugout, a huge smile on the Frenchman's face.
‘Talking for so long that Joel Piroe ordered Rutter to do some warming up’
The West Stand and Kop singing Rutter's name as he went to warm up in the corner, before a happy reunion with Willy Gnonto. The pair were talking for so long that Joel Piroe ordered Rutter to do some warming up.
A few words exchanged between Fabian Hürzeler and someone in the Leeds staff as they had to be kept separate at full-time.
Darlow's tiny child waving to the crowd like someone who had played 38 games.
Alex Cairns doing the wave with the South Stand at Ampadu's insistence.
