"Our true standing" - Leeds United fans agree in Brighton game predictions as 'vulnerability' is cited
Leeds United’s fans have their say on Saturday’s second away game of the new Premier League season at Brighton.
Leeds United face a long trip for the club’s second away day of the new Premier League season at Brighton - but what do the club’s fans think? Here is what our YEOP Jury have had to say with similar feelings of positivity in their predictions.
NEIL GREWER
Brighton have had an interesting start to the season with an opening day 4-0 thrashing of a disorganised poor Villa followed by a 4-3 defeat at Chelsea.
They are joint top scorers in the Premier League but have a vulnerability at the back.
Leeds have been miserly in defence and attack, and I expect a tight game.
Leeds will be without Mr Reliable, Joe Rodon. This is not a common occurrence and will undoubtedly weaken the team to some level.
Daniel Farke has two replacement options – either new signing Nico Elvedi, who replaced Rodon after this injury on Saturday, or James Justin moves to centre-back and Gabi Gudmundsson comes in at left-back.
I suspect the decision will be influenced by whom Farke expects to play right side attack for Brighton.
Up front for Leeds there are also options, and I expect Brenden Aaronson to start alongside Noah Okafor or Harry Wilson – Aaronson being a more defensive option to start with and others being available if, like last week, Leeds have to chase the game.
It is probably a game too soon to see the two deadline day signings.
Prediction: Brighton & Hove Albion 1 Leeds United 1.
EVAN SEAMAN
Leeds United travel to the Amex Stadium where they will face Brighton & Hove Albion as they try to continue their unbeaten start to the campaign.
Leeds come into the fixture off the back of a 1-1 draw to Brentford after their opening day win against Nottingham Forest, whereas Brighton recently lost 4-3 to Chelsea, but they beat Aston Villa 4-0 before that so they will be challenging opponents.
Brighton also qualified for the league phase of the Europa Conference League after beating Tromso 4-0 over two legs, and they will be full of confidence.
In terms of team news, Brighton have a few injuries to deal with including the likes of Yankuba Minteh and Evan Ferguson, but former Leeds United man Georginio Rutter could be back from injury to face his old club.
For Leeds, it is still uncertain whether Gabriel Gudmundsson will be fit to play.
However, the recent signing of Melvin Bard should fill that void in the left-back position if required.
Prediction: Brighton & Hove Albion 1 Leeds United 3.
DAVID WATKINS
After two excellent wins at the City Ground, the Brentford game looked like an opportunity to put a peg in the ground, but that first half surprised me.
Now I’m looking forward to the clash with the Seagulls, which should give us more clues as to our true standing in the Premier League pecking order.
Brighton away has not been great for Leeds in recent years; I make it no wins in 10 recent visits, and we haven’t even scored in the last eight!
What is it about Brighton that we can’t cope with?
Leeds have one point more than Brighton after the two opening games, but the Seagulls' results are better than they look on paper.
They opened with a 4-0 demolition of Aston Villa, while last weekend they narrowly lost 4-3 at fancied Chelsea.
They also played two games in the UEFA Conference play-offs, and won through 4-0 on aggregate against Tromsø.
Bologna and Roma both failed to score against them in pre-season too.
It will be tight, and a point would be an excellent result.
Prediction: Brighton & Hove Albion 0 Leeds United 0.
KEITH INGHAM
Leeds United face a trip to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, a ground that will bring back bad memories for the players and fans alike.
United were abysmal last season and crashed to a 3-0 defeat on the south coast.
It will see the Whites go up against Pascal Struijk, if he is picked.
The likeable centre-back moved there in the summer but has been on the bench for the opening games in the Premier League.
Unfortunately, Leeds travel without influential centre-back Joe Rodon who looks to be out for at least a few games with a hamstring injury.
Nico Elvedi will probably come in to replace him, I’d expect Daniel Farke to keep faith with the rest of the side that faced Brentford.
Brighton thrashed Aston Villa on the opening day and then came back from 3-0 down to lose narrowly at Chelsea last weekend.
This will be a tough test for the team and the travelling ‘army’ and if they get a point it would be a good result.
Prediction: Brighton & Hove Albion 1 Leeds United 1.
MIKE GILL
With the thrills and spills of the transfer window behind them, Leeds United head for the seaside.
Last season's visit to Brighton is not one of our happier memories. The 3-0 defeat was probably the low point of 2025-6.
Just four weeks before the light bulb moment at Manchester City, it was looking as though it was going to be a long, hard season.
This time around, after hammering Villa at home on the opening day of the season and narrowly losing at Chelsea, Brighton still look like a formidable opponent especially at the Amex.
In the first half against Brentford, United deployed five players across the back.
They looked pedestrian and were overrun until Daniel Farke changed the system and personnel for the second half but the question is how should they line up against Brighton?
Can they afford to go 'gung ho' against a team that has just scored seven goals in two Premier League games?
The answer is probably no, but Daniel Farke has the tactical nous and depth of squad to deal with it.
The Whites will probably have to be content with a hard-fought draw.
Prediction: Brighton & Hove Albion 1 Leeds United 1.
