Leeds United's Carabao Cup second round opponents confirmed as Whites get instant away-trip repeat
Leeds United play their first Carabao Cup game later this month.
Leeds United‘s Carabao Cup second round opponents have been confirmed with the Whites due to face Nottingham Forest away from home.
The Carabao Cup second round draw took place on Monday evening ahead of the first round’s final fixture between Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City. The competition is regionalised until round three, with Leeds in the northern section.
Daniel Farke’s side were assigned ball number 11 for the draw and have now been confirmed to face Forest at the City Ground for the second time in a few days. The fixture will take place in the week commencing Monday August 24.

That means it will sit between the Whites’ Premier League opening-weekend trip to Forest and their first home league game of the season against Brentford. The exact date of the fixture is subject to Sky Sports’ TV broadcast selections.
Leeds will hope to fare much better in the competition than they did last season. Farke’s side were eliminated at the second-round stage around this time a year ago, losing on penalties to Sheffield Wednesday who were a Championship club at the time.
Farke’s side struggled at Hillsborough and after conceding a Karl Darlow own-goal around the hour mark, needed Jayden Bogle’s 81st-minute effort to keep them in it. Extra-time passed without any more goals but Leeds were woeful from the spot.
All three efforts from Joel Piroe, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Sean Longstaff were missed, with Barry Bannan, Ike Ugbo and Liam Palmer on target for the Owls. Leeds have failed to make it beyond the competition’s second round in each of the last three seasons.
Leeds have three games to focus on before their Carabao Cup clash, the first of which is a pre-season friendly against Manchester United at Croke Park in Dublin on Wednesday. Farke’s side then host FC Augsburg on Saturday before kicking their Premier League campaign off at Nottingham Forest on Saturday August 22.
